Dr. Sofia Martin-Suarez, staff surgeon at the Cardiac Surgery Department of the Sant’Orsola hospital in Bologna.
Dr. Martin-Suarez grew up in Spain and studied medicine at the University of Granada. She conducted her Erasmus studies in the Cardiac Surgery Department of the University of Bologna and later completed her specialisation in cardiac surgery at UNIBO in 2003. In 2007 she became the first woman in Italy to perform a heart transplant. Outside of work, Dr. Martin-Suarez enjoys many fitness activities as well as acting classes. Her Italian husband is also a cardiac surgeon, and they are the proud parents of two daughters.
Dr. Martin-Suarez will tell us about her experiences as a cardiac surgeon and heart transplant specialist as well as discuss the challenges she has faced and continues to face as a woman in a predominantly male field.
The Event will take place in the upstairs room at CostArena. Our monthly meetings are open to IWF members.
This event is also open to one-time guests that are interested in membership. If you are bringing a guest interested in membership, please include their name as well.
