Dear IWF Ladies,
I am very sorry to inform you that the Culture Club visit, scheduled for Saturday, November 30th, must be postponed as the Institute curator is ill and she could not find any substitute to guide us. We have rescheduled the outing for Saturday, December 7th, same time, and I hope that many of you will be able to join us then.
Kindly confirm your participation by email within Thursday the next, thank you.
Sorry for the inconvenience and I wish you a nice weekend anyway.
Bye,
Susanna
Bologna is very renowned for its civil rights campaigns and activism in several domains. Less known is the fact that it is also the seat of an “excellence” which works to guarantee the rights of a specific category of citizens: blind or visually impaired people.
The Istituto dei Ciechi Francesco Cavazza was funded in 1881 and immediately acted in order to provide visually impaired people with the technical instruments needed to achieve the best educational and cultural opportunities available. Today, it still is a state-of-the-art research center with the objective of not only giving access to cultural contents and fostering integration in general, but also working on the prevention of visual illnesses by for ex. campaigning for early screenings on newborns. It is unique in Italy and a pride for the city.
The Institute and the Museo Tolomeo will offer us a new perspective, which will surely enrich us and make us look at our city’s streets with new eyes.
