IWF Weekly News Flash 4 April

Dear IWF Member

Good Morning!

I don’t know about you but I was ever so glad to see rain. It afforded me the scarce pleasure of a few divinely restful hours of shameless solitude indoors with a book this past weekend. I do love a good rainstorm. Even better if there’s thunder and lightning. April is of course the month with the most precipitation, a cyclical atmospheric period that has been pondered by poets, songwriters, and farmers alike. In 1557, a gentleman by the name of Thomas Tusser compiled a collection of writings he called A Hundred Good Points of Husbandry (sorry 16th century ladies, this manual is not the companion piece to How to be a Good Wife). In April’s Husbandry section Tusser wrote:

Sweet April showers

Do spring May flowers

Which seems to be from where the English language phrase originates. There is deeper meaning behind the words, as well. “April showers bring May flowers” is a reminder that even dour periods, in this case the steady grey rains of April, can bring about very enjoyable things indeed – an abundance of flowers and green foliage in May. “April showers bring May flowers” is a ponderance in patience and perseverance, and one that seems quite fitting for this year.

And with that, we wish you a very nice week and look forward to welcoming you to all of very enjoyable things planned for this month!
