PREGNANCY TESTS

Ask for un test di gravidanza (home pregnancy test) in any pharmacy. Otherwise, turn to your gynecologist, consultorio familiare, or one of the clinics open to foreigners without health care coverage.

UNWANTED PREGNANCY

Drop by a consultorio familiare - appointment not necessary - to discuss options, including the possibility of taking the morning-after pill. IVG - interruzione volontaria di gravidanza (voluntary termination of a pregnancy) is legal and is the woman’s choice through the first trimester. Once a positive pregnancy test has been confirmed, refer to a doctor or a consultorio familiare for counseling and information. The IVG procedure can only be performed in a public hosptial, either at Policlinico S. Orsola-Malpighi or Ospedale Maggiore. There are no private options for this procedure. If an unwanted pregnancy is carried to term, adoption services are available at the hospital post-birth.
